ARE YOU DENYING THE LORD?

A famous gospel songwriter and singer recently told a story of an encounter he had with some music producers who came looking for him from another country. They came to make him an offer of producing and distributing his songs all over the world. The deal looked quite mouthwatering being worth some millions of US dollars, and this music evangelist almost took up the deal except for the condition he was given. They had asked him to drop the name of Jesus Christ off the lyrics of his song and use God instead.

They explained they wanted the songs to have appeal with some religionists who might be offended with the name of Jesus Christ. This song minister would do no such thing, hence the deal was cancelled. Why would this song minister throw away such opportunity of having his music produced by an internationally renowned label and circulated worldwide? What is the big deal in the name of Jesus Christ? Is replacing Jesus Christ with God in the lines of a song lyric not the same thing? These were questions on my mind as I heard this story.

What is in a name? The Bible tells us that the name of Jesus Christ is the name above all names. “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and those under the earth” (Philippians 2:9-10). Furthermore, Acts 4:12 reveals that “There is no salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. It is by believing in Jesus Christ that we are saved. There are many however, who have heard the joyful message of the great sacrifice that Jesus Christ made by willingly offering Himself to die to pay man’s debt of sin, who still reject and deny Him. When you do not believe the gospel and continue in your sinful life, you are rejecting and denying the Lord Jesus Christ.

On the other hand, many Christians have encountered similar situations as that faced by the Gospel singer, and they have denied their Lord. Many times we are faced with situations we feel embarrassed to mention the name of Jesus Christ. There are those times when we are with people who do not believe Jesus Christ and because we do not want to offend them, we do not speak out when they are abusing and saying mocking things about the Lord. We want to maintain the friendship of such people but forgetting that Jesus Christ is our best friend. We deny Jesus Christ, when we want to play safe and sit on the fence when matters of our faith are brought to the table. When we are ashamed to make a public confession of our faith in Jesus Christ, we are denying our Lord. It is such shame that keeps us from telling others the good news of the salvation we have received in Jesus Christ and showing them how they may also be saved. We can talk so highly of our favourite sports star, musician, etc, but we cannot talk about our Saviour and Lord.

And then there is yet another way we deny the Lord. We deny our Lord Jesus Christ when we still live in sin while professing ourselves to be Christians. If we keep on with fornication, stealing, lying, hatred, malice, and all other forms of unrighteousness, we are simply saying we do not know the one who has delivered us from sin. Are you denying the Lord by living in sin?

It is a very important warning we have from our Lord about this matter. Jesus Christ says in Matthew 10: 32 – 33, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven”. If we timidly and cowardly deny our Lord Jesus Christ here on earth, then He cannot present us to the Father and welcome us to heaven after we leave this world. It was the hallmark of believers of generations before us to bear any kind of persecution and tribulation but would not deny the name of Jesus Christ. They would rather die than recant their confession of the Saviour Jesus Christ and believe in him. Hence we are again told in 2nd Timothy 2:12, “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he will also deny us”. Here then is the verdict, my friend! Let us consider it well and be sure we are not denying our Lord before men in the world.

Have you been denying our Lord Jesus Christ? This is the time for repentance and mercy. If you realize the folly of denying the Lord, come quickly before him and confess this sin. Ask God for mercy. The Apostle Peter had also denied the Lord even for three times (Luke 22:54 - 62), but when he sincerely repented and came back to worship, God forgave Him and He will also forgive you. Let us no more deny our Lord but boldly celebrate Him at all times and in all occasions.

Have you been ashamed to become a believer and follower of Jesus Christ? This is the time to let go off that shame that will destroy both your present and the future. This is your opportunity to shake off whatever ridicule you may get from those who don't know how blessed it is to have Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. I encourage you to make a definite commitment and public confession of Jesus Christ as you Lord and Saviour and surrender and make a vow to follow Him the rest days of your life. Will you turn to Christ now?

Pray now.

“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.” If you have this prayer with the whole of your heart, then be assured God has heard you and saved you. You now need to seek out a church around you where you will get to know God more and live the new life you have received. God bless you.

Celebrate Jesus today and always and He shall also celebrate you in Heaven. Amen.
